Myspace.com Movie Marketing

I've noticed a scary trend as of late. Hollywood, in it's late-to-the-party style, has decided to use Myspace.com as a marketing tool for upcoming films. Now - if anything can put a nail in the 'cool' factor of something it's the corporate adoption and manipulation of it, so Myspace.com's hip factor ( sexual predators vs 14 year olds non-withstanding ) may be coming to an end.

That aside, I'm worried about the possible extension of using Myspace 'friends' as viral marketing and reviews for movies. I don’t know how well the typical ‘net’ speak could translate into advertising. Imagine if they had done this for Star Wars Episode III and put a typical comment on the theatre poster or DVD cover:

So Anak1n is Lke, OMG u r Teh Ev1l, and Palp is like, yeh – I AM TEH EV1L but the Jedi are n00bs.

So Anak1n and ob1 fight, and Anak1n is Lke, I am teh roxxor with the L1te S8ber, and Ob1 is Lke d0n’t m8k me get 1337 on u and then he haxxorz Anak1n all up and Anak1n is Lke OMG WTF!!!111 I h8 u.
